Countersteering is an air control technique, often combined with airbrakes. When in the air, the player can steer in a direction, gradually reducing the angular momentum of the car as long as steering is held.
For example, if the player holds left just before leaving the ground, the car will continue rotating to the left in the air. The player can steer right, slowing this rotation until it stops.
Generally, the magnitude of steering does not matter, only its direction.
